For the month of August, Kindy 1 is reviewing everything we have studied so far this year. It’s important to review so we don’t forget what we have learned!

This week we are reviewing “hygiene” and why it’s important to keep our teeth and bodies clean. Kara reminds us that it’s important to brush our teeth and wash our bodies because it helps us stay healthy, clean and happy.

We start by going over our flashcards. We review all the different items we can use to clean ourselves. For example, “toothbrush,” “shampoo,” “soap”, “facecloth.”

Next, we go to the sink where we do an activity to show the importance of thoroughly washing our hands with soap and water.

Kara puts glitter on her hands to represent germs. Next, she quickly sticks her hands under the water. Afterwards, she holds up her hands to show that they are still covered in glitter! Kara tells us that if we don’t wash with soap and take the time to scrub, the germs will still be on our hands.

She then shows us how to properly wash our hands using soap and water.

After she is done, we take turns washing the glitter (germs) off our hands.

All clean! We did a great job of washing the germs away!

Back in the classroom, Kara shows us another example of why it’s important to clean ourselves.

On the floor we see a dish filled with water and black pepper. The black pepper represents germs and germs can make us sick.

When we touch the germ water, some of the germs stick to us! Oh no!

We then dip our fingers in soap.

When our soapy fingers touch the water, the germs race to the side of the dish! Washing with soap helps keep those pesky germs away!

Afterwards, we play a game with the hygiene objects we learned from our flashcards. When the music plays, we pass the items. When the music stops, we must tell the class what item we have and how it is used! It was a fun game!

Lastly, we finish the lesson with a worksheet.  On the worksheet, we draw a line showing where each product is used on the body. After all our review, we are able to confidently finish this worksheet!
