It All Makes Sense! ★ Kindy 1

2023.1.6

Happy New Year from the Kindy 1 classroom! We stayed busy this holiday season, but even with all the time spent prepping for our Christmas concert we still worked hard during our lessons. Kara and Momoko are so proud of us!

We recently wrapped up a science segment about the five senses which are “see”, “listen”, “taste”, “smell” and “touch”.  We had fun learning about what each of the senses are used for.

Kara had fun activities planned for each of the senses and we’ll highlight a couple of them here!

Kara showed us some flashcards and taught us about the different types of “taste”. We thought it was interesting to learn that different things can taste “salty”, “sweet”, “sour”, “bitter” and “spicy”!

Kara had two cards laid out and asked us “who can tell me which one of these foods tastes “sweet?”

“I know!”

“The parfait tastes sweet!”

“Yes, that’s right!” “Great job!”

After we did a few rounds of this we did another activity where we had to match toy food to the taste.

“How does a chili pepper taste?”

“It tastes spicy!”

“Good job!”

“How does a strawberry taste?”

“It tastes sweet!”

“That’s correct, nice work!”

Another sense we learned about was “see”. We learned the importance of our eyes and how they help us to see the things around us.

Momoko demonstrated our next activity. We had to wear a blindfold and try to pin a carrot nose on a snowman.

When it was our turn to try we realized it was harder than it looked!

Not having the ability to see made it a fun challenge!

Losing our ability to see made us rely heavily on our other senses such as “touch” and “sound”.

It was a fun activity that taught us the importance of each of our senses.

Keep up the hard work Kindy 1! Let’s make 2023 the best year ever!
