Hello from the Kindy 1 classroom!

This month in Math we are learning about time. Kara started the lesson by asking us to look around the classroom and then point to the clock.

We found it!

Kara then explained to us that we use clocks to tell the time. We learned that the “little hand” on the clock tells us the hour and the “big hand” tells us the minutes. Kara told us that there are 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day!

We also learned that when the little hand points to the 12 we say, “o-clock” and when the little hand points to the 6 we say, “thirty”.

After we went through our flashcards, Kara read us the book “Tick-Tock Sharks.” It was a fun book and a great way for us to practice telling time!

“Can you find 8 thirty?” Good job!

“Can you find 6 o-clock?” Nice work!

Next, we played a game called “Blast Off to Hour Space.” Kara told us a number and we had to place a token in the space that belongs to the hour on the clock.

It was tricky at first, but after some practice we were able to do it!

We found the space that belongs to hour 9!

After our clock game we finished the lesson by playing “What Time is it, Mr. Wolf?” This time instead of Kara yelling out the time (for example “it’s 5 o-clock!”), she held up a clock and we had to read the time instead.

We all did a great job of reading the clocks.

Of course, we knew it was time to run when Kara said, “It’s lunch time!”
